HUMAN RIGHTS DEPARTMENT
Main activities of the HR Department focus on provision of information and legal services in order to assist refugees and internally displaced persons from Kosovo to exercise their human rights. It includes professional legal aid or referral for specific problems to assist the beneficiaries in overcoming various obstacles in exercising their property, status and social rights and ensuring relevant, up-to-date and valid information to empower the beneficiaries to reach the best possible durable solution, be it return or integration in the host country. Legal assistance has a special component related to facilitation of the provision of Croatian documents for refugees from Croatia settled in Serbia .Another specific activity is legal advising and in-court representation for the victims of torture. Programme of support to the internally displaced persons form Kosovo and Metohija was realised in from 2002 till 2008. It included dissemination of information on relevant issues related to the possibilities for return and access to rights in the places of displacement through interactive web portal. Specific activity of the human rights department is in-court representation of forcibly mobilised refugees. Through the cooperation with other IAN departments, especially Education Department (IAN Telecentar), expanded support has been provided as well as empowerment of the beneficiaries addressing legal service. They are offered a possibility to improve their professional and social skills through different education programs and thus better integrate in any environment they choose for their future life. Human Rights Department actively participates in regional cooperation and advocacy initiatives, working on protection of refugees/IDPs and reconciliation in the region. IAN continuously builds up its partnership with related NGOs in Serbia and also keeps strong regional approach and active cross-border cooperation with different civil society actors in Croatia and BIH, acting through regional and local Networks (South East European Refugee Assistance Network, Kosovo Initiative Program and Serbian Refugee Council ).
