Campaigns for commemoration of the International Day of Support of Victims of Torture

Since 2001, IAN CRTV has participated in the global campaign on the occasion of commemorating 26th June, the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. On this occasion we organize various public events (performance, petition), TV spot broadcasting, public debates, lectures, round tables, press conferences, and book publishing.

In 2006, together with the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT), IAN started a media campaign against torture. IAN has managed to negotiate with local TV stations and has made agreements with two of them to support our idea of promoting the fight against torture.

During the 24 th , 25 th and 26 th of June, two TV stations - TV Pink and TV B92 (both with national frequency) - broadcasted the International 26 June TV Spot "Together against Torture" which IRCT sent to us. The TV spot ends with information about the IAN Centre for rehabilitation of torture victims.

The main event was organised on the 26th of June. IAN organized a press conference held in cinema "Mali Odeon". The conference started with the broadcast of the IRCT TV spot . One of the main topics of the conference was a presentation of the publication entitled "REDRESS IN ACTION - Forcibly Mobilised Refugees in Serbia " to increase wider public awareness regarding the problems of forcibly mobilized refugees.

The most recent press conference, on 26 June 2007, was organized in order to present IAN CRTV work and once again raise public awareness of torture issues and need for rehabilitation of victims. This occasion was also used for presenting the project "Prevention through Documentation" and introducing the Istanbul Protocol to the public as an internationally recognized instrument for adequate and efficient investigation and documentation of torture cases. The project will be conducted in five countries of the world in 2007/2008, one of which is Serbia . IAN CRTV is involved in this project as the national coordinator for Serbia .
