On the occasion of June 26th, International Day of Support to Victims of Torture, International Aid Network (IAN) organized THE WEEK OF SUPPORT OF VICTIMS OF TORTURE . A series of events in the cities of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Northern Macedonia, together with partner organizations, the Center for Human Rights of Nis and the Center for Civic Initiatives Prilep, once again pointed to the importance of supporting victims of torture and the importance of punishing the perpetrator of torture. Commemoration of The International Day of the Support of Victims of Torture began on June 26th with a press conference in Belgrade, where, beside the organizers, were present donor representatives Leoneta Pajer from the Delegation of the European Union, John Andrew Yang, UNHCR Representative, Milan Markovic from the UN Permanent Office in Serbia, as well as numerous associates and friends of the organization. In the evening, at the Center for Cultural Decontamination, an exhibition of works from creative workshops titled “Art as Support to Victims of Torture” was held. The exhibitions were attended by authors of art objects, women migrants who were granted protection in Serbia, and a lot of attention was drawn to the exposure of users: Bogdan Jelic, retired officer from Croatia, Walid Ismail, refugee from Sudan, Dragan Jugovic, founder of DUSA (soul) and Vinko Lala, representative of the Association of inmates of the Birac region from Bratunac. The music part of the program was performed by Natasa Jovic Trivic, a mecca-soprano, principal singer of the National Theater Opera and Gorana Curgus, harp soloist of the Orchestra of the National Theater. The week of support to victims of torture continued in Nis on June 27, where, in cooperation with the Human Rights Center – Nis, a press conference was held in Media and Reform Center premises. Journalists were presented on this occasion the results of activities on the project “Comprehensive Action Against Torture”, which is being implemented on the territory of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Northern Macedonia for a year and a half. The International Day of Support to Victims of Torture was celebrated in Prilep on June 28, where, after a press conference in the city center, a manifestation titled “Art Colony of Support Victims of Torture” was held. Four Macedonian painters created their works of art in the presence of citizens, who were informed by members of the Center for Civic Initiative about the importance of supporting victims of torture and the need to eradicate it at all levels.
