On October 13, the representative of IAN, Biljana Petrović, spoke at the round table “The Importance of Expertise and Expert Opinions as Evidence in the Asylum Procedure”, organized by the Belgrade Center for Human Rights and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Serbia . The goal of the event was to bring to the representatives of competent state institutions the importance of comprehensive consideration of evidence submitted in asylum procedures, with a focus on particularly sensitive cases, in order to improve practice in making decisions on asylum requests. Respecting the findings and opinions of experts from different fields, such as medicine and psychology, is necessary for the correct determination of the factual situation in individual cases of asylum seekers, and for making legal decisions.
