Yesterday at the Youth Center in Pančevo, before the full hall of Scena Apolo, a performance “If only I were not a woman” was performed. The performance was created and performed in cooperation of International Aid Network IAN and Musical Opera Theater Organization MOTO. The text of the play was written by Nina Džuver, based on the motives of the story of the migrant woman Mahbube Taheri, IAN’s client. The play was directed by Vladan Đurković, and the roles are interpreted by Milica Stefanović and Vaja Dujović.

The story of the piece follows a young Afghan woman from Iran Zahra who does not accept the position she has in her country as a woman and wants a new chance for herself. After the difficult road she had to overcome, there is the last but perhaps the most difficult challenge – getting asylum. While talking to the official of migrant centre (Fatima), Zahra must convince her that her reasons for asylum are completely acceptable.

The performance of the play in Pancevo was made possible by UNHCR Serbia.
